--SOHO NO BRAKES "BACK WHEEL JOKER" CYCLIST - HO! HO! HOW UNFUNNY.

Went along to the weekend LAMBETH COUNTRY SHOW and saw some of the above activities attractions. Took the opportunity to enquire of one of the Tented cycling advisers what was being done to oppose the trendy no brakes fixed-wheel cycling tendancy? The enquiry clearly surprised and wrong footed the cycling adviser. The first response was "what is worng with cycling with no brakes?". Quite separately a young woman visitor close by who could not help overhearing the conversation quickly stepped in to mention that the "no brakes" phenomina was very noticeable and she mentioned that very recently a young male had been boasting to her that he rode with no brakes. Anyway the conversation with the L C S cycling adviser was very far from encouraging so far as opposing this dangerous cycling tendancy. It is clearly not a tendancy that the cycling campaigners are doing anything to publicise by way of overt opposiiton.
On the way home a "no brakes" cycle was still in-situ outside <BRIXTON CYCLES> (as it also had been five hours earier).

An enquiry has today been separately left with the LONDON CYCLING CAMPAIGN to find out if they are actively doing anything overtly to discourage the "no brakes" cycling trendies.

“Just thought to enquire as a 72 year old lifelong cyclist (well from the age of about 14) whether your campaign is doing anything overtly to combat the dangerous trend of cyclists riding fixed-wheel with no brakes - obviously I am not referring to track cycling not on roads etc., There is quite a trend and the practice is transparently dangerous and ought to be actively discouraged not simply ignored”.

Most people I've seen riding brakeless had the leg power to stop confidently.
Not that I consider riding without brakes myself, but why are you getting so upset about it, as opposed to driving an ill maintained car without insurance?

There is no such thing as a brakeless bike. They are fixed wheel which means the back wheel is a brake. Brakeless fixed wheel riders are usually some of the most skilled cyclists you will meet, it is not them who are being killed by left turning HGV's most months in London it is the untrained, unskilled, hi-vis wearing people on their hybrids.

Go back to looking for toilets and stop being such bigot about things you do not understand.

If Christ was on a bike, you can bet it would be a brakeless fixie skidder. Come judgement day, what would you say to Christ on a bike?

What I feel is a far more dangerous tendancy (sic) is people who try to tell other people what to do and how to behave. This is London My Friend. If you want small town moral high-handedness, move to a small town. Or just go back to watching toilets... er ... Seems to me you are just envious of these hipsters and their sexy lifestyles. Perhaps you've been hanging around in toilets too long?

Love,
Skully

Interesting article, Ian.

I have personally had personal experience of these no brakes™ bikes, and you are absolutely right that it is extremely dangerous and without doubt super-cool.

Indeed, since taking delivery of my fixie and spoke cards, my sexual prowess has increased ten-fold.

If i wear my wolf shirt as well... needless to say, i get an unimaginable quantity of foofoo.

What's actually happened here is a classic NHS failing. Mr No Brakes contracted AIDS from a Brazilian rent boy back in 1983 and was wrongly diagnosed with apathy and aggrevated lethargy. He sued the NHS and was paid out 4 squillion and fiddy dorra, he now has far to much money and wastes it on the newest hipster fads as his life is sure to end very soon and enjoyment is paramount.

This is a true account of factual events.

Thanks for the wholesome voice. Me & my neighbour were preparing to do some examination about that. We got a nice book on that matter from our local library and many books are not as cognitive as your site. I am pleased to discover such information which I was searching for a long while. :)

Hiya, I'm really glad I have found this information. Today bloggers publish only about gossips and net and this is actually frustrating. A good site with exciting content, this is what I need. Thanks for keeping this website, I will be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Cant find it.
